In a remarkable display of community spirit and conservation passion, the recent fundraiser to support efforts to rediscover the Bathurst Grassland Earless Dragon has been declared a resounding success! With enthusiastic support from Symbio Wildlife Park, the Illawarra Reptile Society, and an army of dedicated volunteers, the event surpassed expectations, raising the funds needed to commence surveys in the Bathurst grasslands.

The star attractions of the fundraiser were two extraordinary prizes donated by renowned wildlife illustrator Amaria Stark donated her stunning original artwork, New Day, New Hope which captured the exquisite beauty of a Grassland Earless Dragon. Equally impressive was Dragon Kingdom, a magnificent canvas print by wildlife ecologist and photographer Jesse Campbell showcasing a regal Monaro Grassland Earless Dragon in its natural habitat. Both prizes drew significant attention, with raffle ticket sales driving the fundraiser to its ambitious goal.
The event itself was a lively celebration of community and conservation. Visitors to Symbio Wildlife Park enjoyed face painting, a bake stall, and engaging conversations with passionate advocates for GEDs. “The support from Symbio Wildlife Park and the Illawarra Reptile Society has been absolutely tremendous,” said president of the Alliance, George Madani. “They played a pivotal role in making this fundraiser such a success.”

Thanks to the overwhelming support, the team has been able to deploy survey sites equipped with artificial refugia in the Bathurst grasslands. These sites are now being monitored for signs of the elusive dragon, offering new hope for its rediscovery. “This effort is a testament to what we can achieve together,” George added. “Every ticket, every donation, and every conversation about the Bathurst Grassland Earless Dragon brings us closer to rediscovering and protecting this precious species.”
Stay tuned for updates as the team embarks on this exciting chapter in our quest. The rediscovery of the Bathurst Grassland Earless Dragon may just be on the horizon!
